The police crack down on illegally imported products

The Thai police seized over 1 million packets of vitamin C and coffee products. The products had counterfeit FDA numbers. Authorities discovered them in a warehouse in Bang Bo District, Samut Prakan Province. Someone imported these products by illegally bypassing customs, and they did not meet the FDA’s safety standards. The perpetrators intended to sell them to consumers through online platforms.

The police stated that these dietary supplements and coffee originated from China and posed potential health risks. In particular, products without FDA certification could pose a serious threat to consumers.

As a result of this operation, the police successfully seized these illegal goods and made public the relevant investigation details. The investigation revealed that the FDA numbers were forged. The perpetrators tried to evade supervision by using certification numbers from other products.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of Thailand played a crucial role in this crackdown on illegal health products. In collaboration with the police, they destroyed over 38,880 kilograms of unlicensed products. The total value exceeded 220 million Thai baht. This action deters illegal importers and provides consumers with a safer shopping environment.

FDA License Number: The Key to Product Compliance

The FDA license number is a core identifier to ensure the compliance of goods. Consumers and businesses can decode the FDA number to verify product authenticity. This ensures the products meet the strict standards of the Thai FDA. So, what information does the FDA license number specifically contain?

Five Components of the FDA License Number:

Group 1: Business Location Identification
The first two digits represent the province and location where production or import takes place, using a two – digit code.

Group 2: Establishment Status and Licensing Authority
The third digit indicates the facility type and licensing authority:

1: FDA – authorized food production facility
2: Province – approved food production facility
3: FDA – authorized food import agency
4: Province – approved food import agency

Group 3: Factory Identification and Approval Year
The next five digits represent the number of the food production or import location and show the year of approval. In this case, the system identifies the year in which the license was issued using the last two digits.

Group 4: Licensing Agency
This single – digit code indicates the agency that granted the product registration number.

Group 5: Product Serial Number
The final four digits represent the specific sequence of the product produced or imported by the factory.分享

Why is the FDA license number so important?

The FDA license number is a crucial identifier for ensuring product compliance. It enables consumers, businesses, and regulatory authorities to verify the legality and compliance of food and health products. By deciphering the FDA number, we can identify the approving agency, the factory, and the registration year. This information helps businesses and consumers avoid purchasing uncertified products that pose potential safety risks.

This crackdown on counterfeit FDA-labeled products warns cross-border e-commerce enterprises. Compliant operation is not just about meeting legal requirements; it’s key to gaining consumer trust and securing the enterprise’s future. Ensuring product compliance, especially verifying the FDA license number, reduces risks, boosts brand reputation, and supports market growth.

Two major e-commerce giants, Lazada and Shopee, have pledged to remove all uncertified and unsafe products. This will be done within 24 hours. This measure is to protect consumers’ rights and interests. These platforms are collaborating with the Thai FDA to ensure only certified and safe food products are listed. This enhances consumers’ sense of security when shopping.

For consumers, understanding the meaning of the FDA license number can help them make more informed purchasing decisions. Enterprises should attach greater importance to product compliance to ensure long – term and stable market competitiveness.
